Poetry Day - I Wrote this on Women's Day
I started this on National Women's day. After seeing all the positive posts about the women in our lives, I wrote this about my daughter. Been meaning to post it, so today seems a good day.
Daughter
She arrived late into this world
Kept us waiting for a couple of weeks
Then still didn't want to meet us
So the surgeon had to do some tweaks.
But she was here, at last
Perfect in every way
I held her to me, tight fast
In those early hours of her very first day.
Those moments I will treasure for ever
The hospital calm, quiet in the early morning
My old life stopped in those early hours
And our new life began as the day was dawning.
I walked the ward, just me and her
I told her about her mum, me, her family
She didn't cry, just looked and dozed, at times
Wide eyed, wrapped up tight, contented and happily.
Her mum was back, ready for her
I handed her over and had to go
To leave them alone to form their bond
As I had done, grateful for the chance, to know.
How it feels to meet a new life. A part of me.
Very real, thoughtful and relatable.
